Stade Rennais reportedly underway bidding war for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey

Eredivisie giants Ajax have reportedly received an opening bid for wantaway Ajax striker Brian Brobbey from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais.

Algemeen Dagblad's Johan Inan reported that Stade Rennais had submitted a bid "in excess of €20 million" for Brobbey, who scored just four goals for Ajax in the Eredivisie last season.

Ajax demand more for Brobbey, but are willing to negotiate further with Stade Rennais.

Stade Rennais, who sold Arnaud Kalimuendo to Nottingham Forest earlier on Monday, face competition from Stuttgart, AS Roma, Sunderland, and several unnamed Saudi Arabian clubs in their pursuit of the eight-time Dutch international.

Ajax want to sell Brobbey to generate funds for reinforcements elsewhere in the squad.

A new controlling midfielder is the current top priority of Ajax's board, who've been working on a temporary transfer for West Ham's Edson Alvarez.

Brobbey's strugglesWith the potential sale of the 23-year-old Brobbey, the Amsterdam giants also want to attract a new striker, for which they're reportedly looking in Belgium, Germany, and Italy.

Besides those two positions, Ajax are reportedly also looking for an additional left-footed defender.

Meanwhile, Brobbey, who rejoined Ajax in 2022 after leaving the club a year prior for RB Leipzig, also prefers a transfer away from Ajax.

It's not yet known if Brobbey wants to join Rennais.

In 126 appearances for Ajax since 2022, Brian Brobbey scored 43 goals, many of which in the first two seasons.

During the 2024/25 season, the Ajax academy product struggled and scored just seven goals in 40 games across all competitions.
