Son Heung-min smashes an MLS record with his transfer to LAFC

In a landmark transfer for Major League Soccer, LAFC has shattered the previous transfer record by acquiring Son Heung-Min from Tottenham Hotspur for a reported transfer cost of $26.

5 million.

This deal makes Son the most expensive incoming transfer in MLS record, eclipsing the previous record set by Atlanta United's acquisition of Emmanuel Latte Lath earlier this year.

The South Korean international arrives in Los Angeles after a prolific decade in the English Premier League, where he became a Tottenham legend and consistently ranked among the league’s top attacking threats.

LAFC’s ambitious signing is seen as a significant milestone for the league, signaling its growing stature on the global football stage.

Son is expected to play a pivotal role in LAFC’s attack, leveraging his wealth of experience and proven ability to create and score goals as he begins his new chapter in Southern California.

Emmanuel Late Lath was the previous holder of that record, joining from Championship side Middlesbrough for a reported transfer cost of $22 million.

Current and former stars of the club are excited about the record-breaking acquisition.

"Seeing him coming to the MLS, it's great for the league, for the city, for the club, also great for our team because he's a kind of an example.

There's plenty of things to learn from him, so I expect him to have a really big impact,"
LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who spent a big part of his career with Son at Tottenham, told reporters earlier.

"MLS is a very strong and competitive league, which is growing every day.

This signing obviously boosts the league even more, brings even more structure.

He has a very good CV and a lot of experience.

He'll help LAFC a lot,"
former LAFC defender Marlon Santos told Betopick.
