Jean-Paul van Gastel appointed manager of Indonesian side PSIM Yogyakarta

Former Netherlands international Jean-Paul van Gastel has been appointed manager of Indonesian Liga 1 side PSIM Yogyakarta, the club confirmed.

Van Gastel, who last worked as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's assistant at Besiktas, was out of a job since Van Bronckhorst's dismissal at the Turkish giants in November 2024.

The former NAC Breda and Guangzhou City manager joins Yogyakarta on a one-year deal, becoming the fourth Dutch manager in the Indonesian top tier, following in the footsteps of Johnny Jansen (Bali United), Jan Olde Riekerink (Dewa United), and Peter de Roo (PERSIS).

Technical director Razzi Mutani was proud to announce the arrival of the 5-time Dutch international.

"He brought a first division club back to the Eredivisie and has been active at the highest level in the Netherlands and Turkey for many years.

We can put that experience to good use here.
