Imperious PSV overcome early injury blow to sink inefficient FC Twente

Eredivisie champions PSV continued their winning start to the new campaign with a 2-0 win away at FC Twente.

PSV manager Peter Bosz fielded an unchanged side from last week's 6-1 clobbering of Sparta Rotterdam, meaning Alassane Plea remained the starting striker with Ricardo Pepi still recovering from a significant knee injury.

FC Twente lost their season opener 1-0 away at PEC Zwolle, prompting manager Joseph Oosting to make significant changes to his starting XI.

Thomas van den Belt, Arno Verschueren, Mitchell van Bergen, and Stav Lemkin were dropped in favour of Max Bruns, Mathias Kjolo, Mats Rots, and Krystian Hlynsson.

Player ratingsBetopickThe changes wouldn't help early on as Max Bruns worked the ball into his own net after seven minutes, giving PSV an early lead.

PSV's luck ran out soon, however, when Alassane Plea was forced to be subbed off after sustaining an injury in a duel with Robin Propper.

The French striker was later seen on crutches, raising further injury concerns for PSV.

After Mats Rots missed a big opportunity for the 1-1, Mathias Kjolo got nearing an equaliser in the first half, but the Norwegian's impressive long-distance effort narrowly missed the top right corner of Matej Kovar's goal.

After failing to create big chances in the remainder of the first half, PSV doubled their lead in the 54th minute thanks to captain Jerdy Schouten, who calmly put the ball behind Lars Unnerstall after a good set-up from left-back Mauro Junior.

Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink was gifted a massive opportunity to get Twente back in the game after Matej Kovar passed the ball to him, but the youngster could not keep his cool and, instead of laying it off to a wide-underway Ricky van Wolfswinkel, he went for his own success and subsequently failed to get nearing a goal.

Guus Til got eerily nearing the 3-0 for PSV, but Plea's successor hit the post in front of what looked like an underway net.

FC Twente played an attackingly poor match and paid for it with a second-straight loss to start the season.

PSV, meanwhile, continued their perfect start and head into a stretch of two consecutive home games, against FC Groningen and Telstar, with six points from six.
