Hacken offload defender Abdoulaye Faye to Bayer Leverkusen for €3 million

20-year-old Hacken centre-back Abdoulaye Faye will be departing the Swedish club in favour of German giants Bayer Leverkusen, who have had a bid of €3 million accepted by the Svenska Cupen winners.

Faye is one of six new arrivals already confirmed for Leverkusen ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, as they begin a new era under Erik ten Hag, after Xabi Alonso's departure for Real Madrid.

Joining Hacken from Diambars FC in his native Senegal in 2023, Faye was initially loaned to Orgryte in 2024 before making his Hacken debut in the Svenska Cupen in February.

He scored on debut against Oster before grabbing another against Mjallby in March.

He made six appearances in the Allsvenskan before picking up an injury in April which has kept him sidelined since.

That meant he missed the cup final victory over Malmo in May.

Yet 11 appearances in total was enough to impress the hierarchy at Bayer.

Despite losing him before their UEFA Europa League qualification campaign gets underway next month, the Wasps are proud for such a club to come in for one of their prospects.

"Selling one of our players to an absolute top club in Europe is yet another milestone for the club and a receipt that our business is good," said Hacken's football manager Martin Ericsson.

Faye himself had nothing but the highest praise for the Swedish club who have aided his development, ”I have learned a lot both on and off the pitch since I moved here from Senegal.

I have received a lot of help to develop.

The environment is nice, everyone is so friendly and I have felt like home in BK Hacken.

Hacken return to Allsvenskan action after the midsummer break on Sunday against GAIS.
