Frank keeps Bissouma at home as Spurs look ahead to 'massive' Super Cup

Thomas Frank has stamped his authority on his new Tottenham Hotspur side ahead of the UEFA Super Cup against PSG on Wednesday by leaving Europa League final starter Yves Bissouma at home after disciplinary issues.

The Mali international has been left behind due to being late three times during pre-season, and has, according to his manager, suffered the consequences.

Speaking about his midfielder, Frank said in Tottenham's pre-match press conference: “He has been late several times and the last time was just one too many.

“You need to give your players a lot of love, and a lot of demands, and there also has to be consequences, and there was a consequence for that.

”It leaves Spurs without one of their players who starred in the Europa League final victory over Manchester United back at the end of last season.

It is also Bissouma's second disciplinary issue in a year, after he released a clip of himself using laughing gas on Snapchat, which is a banned substance in the UK.

He subsequently expressed regret for the incident publicly, and Frank insisted the matter will be dealt with properly after the Super Cup.

They will be underdogs for the game against PSG, and record is not on their side either.

In the last 12 Super Cup matches, 11 of them have gone to the Champions League holders.

PSG’s last competitive outing, though, will still linger, as they were humbled by Chelsea 3-0 in the Club World Cup final back in July.

He added: “I think for the club, for everyone involved with Tottenham, it’s a massive game.

It’s a great challenge and a massive opportunity.

We will embrace it and give everything.

(our structure) hopefully it is perfect tomorrow, we are playing against an ‘ok’ team, who I think did reasonably well last year, but that we are ready for.

I am sure it will be 100% super competitive.

"Dominic Solanke, Dragusin and Destiny Udogie all travelled with the squad to Udine, and Frank was positive that his striker could play a part on Wednesday evening, given that he also trained at the stadium on Tuesday evening with the first team.

Frank explained: “Dom is the positive one, he is available for selection.

Destiny is closer and getting closer to training with the group.

”Tottenham are being associated with the likes of Eberechi Eze and Savinho in recent days, as Frank looks to reinforce his squad ahead of the new season and he confessed that he was ‘still in the market’ for new recruits without going into details.

He said: “I think I have a good squad.

We are definitely in the market, and we will do everything we can to make the best and strongest squad for September 1st.

There are a few things up in the air.

But, we have had two top training sessions and we are ready for tomorrow.
