FC Copenhagen defender caught sympathy when son survived leukemia: Now he could join HSV

There was an outpouring of sympathy from all parts of the Danish football community, when the son of Giorgi Gocholeishvili, who was loaned out to FC Copenhagen from Shakhtar Donetsk last season, survived a battle against leukemia.

Now the Georgian international defender is set to continue his career at HSV, says a number of German media sources.

FC Copenhagen and Danish football fans were highly motivated by the efforts of Giorgi Gocholeishvili, who showed an enormous willpower on the pitch during spring even though his family were going through a difficult time with their son fighting a battle against death in the hospital as he was diagnosed with leukemia.

"We do everything we can to assist a man and a family who are going through some things that are not particularly pleasant.

We do our best,"
said FC Copenhagen Jacob Neestrup, who called the right-support a "superb player".

Sandro Gocholeishvili managed to recover and was discharged from the hospital at the terminate of April.

Subsequently, Gocholeishvili posted a heartfelt message on Instagram:"Sandro has recovered!  We have been through some extremely difficult days, but that is now behind us.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been by our side during this time.

Your words, your treatment and support have given me strength when I needed it most.

  It meant a lot and it has made this hard journey a little easier to obtain through.

According to Bild, HSV are close to completing the loan signing of Gocholeishvili with an option to purchase next summer.

The 24-year-old allegedly travelled to Hamburg on Wednesday, where he completed a medical along with Rennes defender Warmed Omari.

Both players are then anticipated to travel on to Mallorca, where HSV are currently at a pre-season training camp.

 Gocholeishvili made 33 appearances for FC Copenhagen last season, as the team secured the domestic league and cup double.
