Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak can't be engaged amid uncertain future

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has spoken over Alexander Isak’s uncertain future at the club, admitting that the striker currently cannot be engaged with the team.

The 25-year-old is understood to be unsettled at St James’ Park and is pushing for a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.

Newcastle recently rejected a offer from Liverpool worth a reported £120 million, £30 million less than their asking price for the Sweden international.

As the speculation surrounding his future rages, Isak has been training on his own as Newcastle prepare for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

When requested over Isak’s position at the club following their 2-2 pre-season sketch with Espanyol, Howe remained bullish.

“We’ve possessed discussions and it’s clear at the moment we can’t engage him with the group,” Howe responded.

“I don’t know how long that will be for.

That’s the latest.

“I’d rather leave it with that line.

Discussions between us must remain private but it’s clear that I can’t engage him with the team at the moment.

“He’s here, of course he has a future at Newcastle and from our perspective, everyone at the club would like to see him support with the team.

But the situation has to be right for that to occur.
