Danish Superliga round-up: OB and Fredericia show their teeth while Brondby overcome FCN

Two promoted teams, OB and Fredericia, proved on Matchday Two of the Danish Superliga that they shouldn't be underestimated in the early season, while Brondby acquired further confidence before their crucial return leg in the European club competitions in the week to come.

OB - ViborgOB showed great promise on Matchday One when they gripped last year's runners-up, FC Midtjylland, to a 3-3 sketch in Herning, and on Sunday, they proved that that result wasn't a fluke when they managed Viborg a 3-1 beat in Odense.

The Odense rearguard seemed somewhat shaky at the start, when Yonis Njoh and Anosike Ementa possessed chances to put the visitors ahead.

But the home side managed to turn the tide and took the lead just before half-time when a delivery from Leeroy Owusu was deflected by Sami Jalal right into the path of Noah Ganaus, who steered a strong header into the net.

Swiss central defender Nicolas Bürgy then scored twice within six minutes in the 57th and 63rd minute for the home side, first via a powerful header and since via a half-volley from the edge of the box to put the home side in solid control.

Charly Nouck cut the deficit for the visitors five minutes from the terminate, but OB gripped on for their first win of the season.

Kent Nielsen's side moved into the season on the support of a series of disappointing test matches, and last weekend they kicked off the season with a 3-0 beat against Brondby.

Chances were few and far apart in the opening stages of the match, but the visitors still managed to edge ahead after 25 minutes.

Patrick Egelund was unfortunate to see a fine effort refused by the woodwork, but Gustav Marcussen reacted quickly to steal in front of Jens Martin Gammelby to lead the ball over the line.

Shortly before the interval things turned from bad to worse for the struggling home side as Emilio Simonsen was given plenty of time and space to run at the Silkeborg rearguard, and he completed coolly, slotting the ball past the helpless Silkeborg-keeper Nicolai Larsen.

Kent Nielsen then offered Julius Nielsen, Asbjorn Bondergaard, og Oskar Boesen a chance to shine after the shatter, but it mattered only a little as Fredericia gripped on for the win.

Brondby also struggled to come to terms with the tricky conditions in Farum, but they still managed to open the score against the run of play through Clement Bischoff after 16 minutes.

The Danish Under-21 international was permitted to surge in the box before launching a strong complete into the far corner without any chance for Nordsjaelland keeper Andreas Hansen.

In the second half FC Nordsjaelland coach Jens Fonsskov Olsen replaced Prince Amoako Junior, Markus Walker og Villum Berthelsen with Milan Iloski, Stephen Acquah and Justin Janssen but the home side still couldn't locate a way through a well-organized Brondby rearguard and despite a host of half chances for either side in a hectic complete, 1-0 remained the final result in Farum.
