Danish FA admits crucial VAR-error as FC Midtjylland were awarded an incorrect goal

The clip referee system VAR made an error when FC Midtjylland were awarded a goal that should have been ruled out when the two clubs recorded a 3-3 draw in the Danish Superliga in Herning on Sunday, says the Danish FA in a message on Facebook.

Franculino's goal that gave FC Midtjylland a 2-1 lead shortly before the break should have been disallowed, when Junior Brumado, who provided the assist, was offside when he received the ball in the attack.

The referee at first ruled the goal offside, but VAR subsequently concluded that the goal should be allowed.

"After the incident, one suspected that the offside lines had lost their synchronization, which rarely happens and can be easily corrected by the VAR team, provided it is detected in time.

Unfortunately, it did not happen in this case in the heat of the moment.

"
"A subsequent calibration showed that the striker was offside by 15 centimetres, which was also what the referee team saw in the first instance.

The goal should therefore not have been approved"
, says the Danish FA.

The Danish FA apologizes to Fredericia, who launched a terrific comeback to earn a draw despite being 1-3 behind with just twenty minutes to go.

"It is, of course, a serious mistake that has occurred, and we must first of all send a big apology to FC Fredericia, who unfortunately received a match-deciding judgment against them.

It was a human error that happened in the heat of the moment.

"
"We have a basic understanding that mistakes can happen, but we should also learn from mistakes when they happen.

The necessary measures have therefore been taken so that we can avoid similar errors as far as possible in the future, says the Danish FA.
