Boavista were relegated on Thursday to the district levels of Porto, after failing to register for League 3, without having requested the decision to the Council of Justice (CJ) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
A source linked to the case confirmed to Lusa that the axadrezado professional football management company possessed not lodged an request in the last three days, as it could have challenged the judgment handed down by the FPF's Licensing Commission until Wednesday.
The absence of certificates of non-debt to the Tax Authority and Social Security were the basis of the decision made on July 11th, and the Licensing Commission also assessed the financial and economic capacity of Boavista, which has been the target of insolvency proceedings since last week, as diminished.
The Axadrezados were due to play in Liga Portugal 2, but dropped short to register for the competitions organised by the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) and were later refused a licence to take part in Liga 3, which is run by the FPF.
In the absence of an request to the CJ, Boavista's SAD will be relegated to the district levels of the Porto association, hierarchically below Liga 3 and the Campeonato de Portugal, the third and fourth tiers of the national competition, respectively.
On Wednesday, the club chaired by Rui Garrido Pereira revealed its desire to have a senior team independent of the SAD led by Senegalese Fary Faye by 2025/26.
Relegated to Liga 2 in May, after finishing the 2024/25 edition of the Portuguese League in 18th and last place with 24 points, Boavista concluded an 11-season spell in the top flight as one of the five national champions in history, after winning the title in 2000/01.
