From the start of 2026, it's expected that away fans will again be allowed at the "New Firm" Copenhagen football derbies between FC Copenhagen and Brondby IF, says Danish Superliga organizers in a press release.
Away fans have been banned indefinitely since the two teams met in October 2024.
"With the measures that are on the way, and the legislative options that are expected to be in place from 1 January, the plan is that in 2026 we will again allow spectators from both teams at all matches, unless the prerequisites change", says director of "Divisionsforeningen" Claus Thomsen.
Among the initiatives that are under way is facial recognition.
"Divisionsforeningen" have applied for permission from the Norwegian Data Protection Authority to use it.
In addition, there are several legislative measures on the way from the Ministry of Justice, which will, among other things, give Police the opportunity to hand out immediate suspensions, while the clubs must internally share video surveillance with each other.
"We hope for tougher legislation with a focus on cracking down on the small group of rioters, who are ruining it for the many", says Claus Thomsen.
"These people must be in the national register, and the clubs must have optimal opportunities for their own registration, so we can keep them away from the stadium.
