Varnamo picked up just their second win of the season, beating Degerfors 3-2 at home in the battle of the two teams in the Allsvenskan's automatic relegation places.
Though they remain bottom, Varnamo are now just three points behind tonight's opponents and six from safety with a third of the season still to play.
Degerfors' dismal few months looked set to continue early on when Mamadouba Diaby gave away a penalty for a foul on his opposite number, Johan Rapp, with just eight minutes played.
Ajdin Zeljkovic held his nerve to score the spot-kick, his first league goal since May.
With no goals in their previous five games, Degerfors fans would have been fearing the worst, only to recieve a pleasant surprise just before the half-hour mark, when Sebastian Ohlsson poked home their first goal since 6th July following a recycled corner.
1-1 was how things stayed until 12 minutes into the second half when Varnamo retook the lead with a towering Rufai Mohammed header - his first Allsvenskan goal - following an accurate Emin Grozdanic cross.
But back came the Bruket, who equalised once again inside the last 20 minutes in spectacular style.
The tight angle out wide on the left wing was no issue for Daniel Sundgren, who powered his free-kick off the far post and into the top corner.
However, the visitors could not hold on for a third draw in four matches, as six minutes later their defence allowed Marcus Antonsson to dance through and guide the winner past the goalkeeper for 3-2.
There was plenty of drama at the top of the table on Sunday, as Mjallby were held but still managed to increase their lead.

Also on Sunday, long-time title challengers AIK lost 2-1 at IFK Goteborg, who are now only behind the the Solna side on goal difference, sitting sixth and seventh, respectively.
Goals either side of half-time from Tobias Heintz made the difference for Goteborg, and though Thomas Isherwood pulled one back with an hour gone, it wasn't enough for AIK - who are now four without a win in the league - to deny IFK a third win in a row.
Oster have climbed out of the bottom three with their first win in eight games, a 2-0 win at Hacken, thanks to a goal in either half, first from Daniel Ljung, and then Alibek Aliev.
That takes them above Halmstad, who now occupy the relegation playoff place.
Oster could not climb any higher as Sirius moved into 12th with a 4-2 win at Brommapojkarna, the second victory in as many games for the Uppsala side.
The first goal didn't arrive until the 50th minute, when Tobias Anker put Sirius in front.
From then on, the goals kept flowing - Ezekiel Alladoh and Adam Jakobsen both equalised either side of Leo Walta restoring the visitors advantage.
But BP couldn't find a third leveller when Robbie Ure put Sirius in front with 20 minutes to play.
Instead, former BP man Oscar Krusnell added a fourth for the away side to seal a win that takes them within three points of the ninth-placed Bromma Boys.
