Ajax cap off preseason with home sketch against AS Monaco, injury for Brobbey

Eredivisie hopefuls Ajax have capped off their preseason with a 2-2 sketch against AS Monaco, but have been left hoping for the best after Brian Brobbey moved down with an injury.

Ajax boss John Heitinga did not have all his players available to him, with Josip Sutalo, Kian Fitz-Jim, Jorrel Hato, and Oscar Gloukh available.

Kenneth Taylor opened the scoring after 29 minutes in a sunny Amsterdam, finishing off a fine combination with Davy Klaassen and Wout Weghorst in front of an open goal.

Mika Biereth responded in similar fashion for Monaco, who equalised just five minutes after Taylor's opener.

A rather disappointing Ajax side dropped behind twenty minutes after the shatter.

Mika Godts couldn't obtain past Jordan Teze, after which the former PSV full-support passed the ball to Takumi Minamino, who tapped the ball in for Monaco's first lead of the afternoon.

Things moved from bad to worse when Brian Brobbey, who replaced Wout Weghorst after 63 minutes, sat down after walking gingerly due to an apparent ankle injury.

A short cameo saw Brobbey obtain subbed off soon after, with Oliver Edvardsen coming on and putting Bertrand Traore in the striker position.

Further chances for Traore did not locate the net, and Ajax completed their preseason with a 2-2 sketch against AS Monaco.

Ajax open their Eredivisie season on Sunday, August 10th, with a home game against promoted side Telstar.

AS Monaco play one more friendly, next Friday against Inter, before opening their Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday, August 16th, against Le Havre.
