Eredivisie side Ajax have notified seven players that they are banned from pre-season training and activities, which kick off on Sunday under new coach John Heitinga.
The information was publicised and confirmed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, which quotes sources close to the club.
According to the paper, Ajax technical director Alex Kroes informed the players via a WhatsApp message.
The seven players have been revealed to be Chuba Akpom, Carlos Forbs, Borna Sosa, Kristian Hlynsson, Christian Rasmussen, Jay Gorter and Branco van den Boomen.
The details are even more minute: the seven players can only use the pitch and the gym after the first team's lunch, and if there are two training sessions that day, they can only use the facilities after the second training session.
Their parking spaces gave been taken away and only one physiotherapist is available for all seven players.
Sven Mislintat's legacyKroes and the executive board have come to the decision in order to strengthen the club's finances.
Akpom, Forbs, Sosa and Van den Boomen were all bought by former director Sven Mislintat, who worked at the club between May and September 2023.
The German former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund executive spent €120 million on twelve players in the summer of 2023, all of whom received high wages.
None of the players played a significant role last season, and with Ajax qualifying for the Champions League, their wages have gone up 50 per cent.
The automatic pay rise means that Akpom, Forbs, and Sosa, combined, are scheduled to earn over €10 million.
For Kystian Hlynsson, Jay Gorter, and Christian Rasmussen, the board has likely decided they lack the desired quality that Ajax are after.
Now it's up to the players to look for a future outside of Amsterdam.
According to Voetbal International's Tim van Duijn, there's already careful movement around the castaways.
